Unless the U.S. moves fast, it will lose the influence war in Africa to the Chinese China’s burgeoning influence on the continent comes with serious consequences for America’s interests in Africa. National security, rule of law, human rights and democratic governance interests are at risk.
ONYMA Inaugurates New Corps of Officers
The inauguration ceremony of the Organization of Liberian Mandingos in New York “ONYMA” was held on Saturday November 26, 2011 on 3rd Avenue in the Bronx of New York. Mr. Layee Sirleaf, president along with other elected officials was sworn into their respective offices. About four hundred and fifty individuals graced the occasion. Among those making remarks were King Mohamed on behalf of FELMAUSA, formal president of ONYMA Famod Konneh, Hon. Abu Kamara, “Minister Counselor for press and Public Affairs at the mission of Liberia to the United Nations” who served as the guest speaker of the program, and the president of ONYMA, Hon. Laye Sirleaf. In his ten minutes length remarks, president Sirleaf assured the ONYMA community that his administration will do everything possible to ensure unity and extend the organization beyond where he met it. He encouraged members of ONYMA to continue their support for the organization at all times.
Constitution Review Committee Begins Consultation With Community Members
The Constitutional Review Committee recently setup by Hon. Mohammed S. Bility, President of FELMAUSA has begun the process of consultation with memberships aimed at creating an enabling environment for members to provide inputs into the process of constitutional revision. Every FELMAUSAN is encouraged to bring to the attention of the committee specific ARTICLE(s), SECTION(s) and CLAUSE(S) in FELMAUSA’s constitution that are of grave concern to him/ her, which in, his/her opinion, impedes or has the propensity to hinder the working of institution.
President Bility Concludes Successful Tete-A-Tete in Atlanta
The Bility administration is pleased to inform the community that the much anticipated Atlanta discussion was an absolute success. The Chairman of the “Mandingo Agenda Committee,” Hon. Bangalee Trawally says his committee cannot afford to wait any longer in advancing their recommendations to the executive leadership of the Federation of the Liberian Mandingos Association in the United States of America (FELMAUSA). Hon. Trawally in an interview today revealed that during the committee’s first meeting, the size of the members present for the initial discussion was about seven. He however added that it has been a bit difficult to get hold of some of the committee’s members simply because of their individual tight schedules.

President Bility Inaugurates the new corps of officers of MALIMA

The peaceful transfer of power in any society or governing institution is a symbolic and indispensable component of social responsibility. It is also an inextricable characteristic of democracy that ensures lasting peace, stability and tranquility within that society or governing institution.

It was democracy at its highest peak, in Maryland yesterday when the outgoing leadership of Kalifala Donzo officially turned over the mantle of power to a newly installed administration led by Hon. Sekou Kamara, former Financial Secretary of the Donzo administration.

Jubilation and excitement filled the WALIMA Community yesterday as president Donzo, whom many said had over stayed his tenure in office stood down as promised before elections. FELMAUSA president Mohammed S. Bility praised Mr. Donzo for transforming WALIMA from a mere social group to a well organized institution that has contributed immensely to the establishment of FEMAUSA.

President Bility encouraged the WALIMA outgoing leadership to remain of assistance to the new administration in providing meaningful ideas and suggestions to promote the goals and aspirations of WALIMA, which will sustain a strong and stabilized FELMAUSA for all Mandingos.

The president expressed delights with the peaceful transformation of leadership in Maryland yesterday and told President Kamara and team of officers that the life of WALIMA was in their hands and was now incumbent upon them to maintain a peaceful atmosphere as has always been in WALIMA.

In his inaugural speech yesterday, president Kamara promised to protect the integrity of WALIMA by ensuring good governance and stability. " I come to this presidency with a vivid understanding of my sole responsibility as not only a leader, but also a unifier of my community", the young president of WALIMA told the FELMAUSA leader. "I am also aware that WALIMA, the Washington Areas Liberia Mandingo Association is a pioneer in the formation of our Federation, FELMAUSA, and has contributed immensely to every nuance of its development". Therefore Mr. President, I promise in this public manner, that my team and I will work diligently to perpetuate WALIMA's commitment in such direction" he said.

In his farewell Speech to the WALIMA people, outgoing president Kalifala Donzo said he was sad to be vacating the top seat of WALIMA, but on the other hand was very emboldened by the strong spirit of democracy to do what is popularly righty for the purpose of peace and stability in our community. " I have left you with a strong and unified community". "I pray, hope and trust with sincerity that you will maintain those values and integrity that we have built over the years the former WALIMA strongman said his successor.

Also speaking at the induction ceremony yesterday, was Mr. Mohammed Donzo, WALIMA's outgoing Secretary General. The former SG told Mr. Kamara and team to be ready to face difficult challenge ahead that could be the test of their leadership. He said some of those challenges would come in the form of criticism and heated debates and as leaders should be willing to accept them.
