Liberian
Mandingo Association of New York (LIMANY)
Press
Release
On July 2, 2008 LIMANY's Administrative Officers and
Members held a teleconference wherein it was agreed
that a delegation from LIMANY headed by its Vice
President Moriken Kenneh attend the FELMAUSA
Convention scheduled to be held from July 4 – 6,
2008 in Philadelphia, PA. The Vice president
accepted the decision and stated in response that he
will be more than happy to head such a beautiful
delegation.
Our decision
to attend the upcoming FELMAUSA Convention is in
adherence of LIMANY’s mission of “communicating and
working with other Liberian organizations for peace,
democracy, reconciliation, and reconstruction. Given
the theme of FELMAUSA’s Convention “Education our
passport to the future”, LIMANY shared the view of
ensuring that all Liberian children receive higher
level of education in a free environment.
Our decision
to attend the convention is also a manifestation of
the true spirit of democracy embodied in LIMANY.
Though few members of LIMANY had some reservations
about attending FELMAUSA’s convention, but the vast
majority of LIMANY membership agreed that we attend
the convention while at the same time address these
concerns raised by some of our members. Let it be
known that we are a great organization which
encompasses a large segment of people with diverse
perspective on issues. This in no way suggests that
we are a divided community.
Mr. Moriken
Kenneh enjoys the confidence of the president Mr.
Abrahim Turay and has expressed his satisfaction in
the unanimous decision taken by the majority of the
membership.
Mr. Kenneh
has emphasized that “Mandingo Unity is a Must" and
there should be no obstacle hindering the progress
and unity of our people. He argued that whatever
differences that exist amongst us should be resolved
by means of peace, and not by the means of conflict.
We the
members of LIMANY should be reminded that our
consensus is base on the principle that every voice
in LIMANY should be heard, every concern should be
addressed. The current unity and peace that we
shared in LIMANY today was based on these
principles. A principle which united us under one
leadership; with Mr. Abrahim Turay as President and
Mr. Moriken Kanneh as Vice President respectively.
It is our hope that we maintain this level of peace
that we all enjoy, and foster unity and
reconciliation with other Liberian organizations as
stated in our constitution
May God
bless and guide our leadership and our Community.
