There
are reports that two unidentified
teenagers are feared dead following
their attempt to rescue a friend, Losene
Konneh at South Beach in
Monrovia Sunday.
The two
boys reportedly went to the ocean front
to have fun along with Losene, but when
they saw Losene
struggling as he was drowning,
they jumped in to the water in an
attempt to save him, but they
too did not survive the mission.
The
report has not been independently
confirmed, but a
senior brother to Losene, Faruk A.
Konneh, a resident of Philadelphia has
confirmed the loss of the two boys and
his brotherbb.
He
said the body of Losene has
not been found. However, he disclosed
that
two bodies came on shore late Sunday and
they were believed to be the two friends
who went after Losene to rescue him.
In
tears, Farok said he had already started
making arrangement for Losene to join
him in the US. "It's God's will," he
said.
Meanwhile, the Konneh and the Dukuly
families in Monrovia have
announced the death of their son,
brother, and nephew, Losene A.
Konneh. On Sunday, December 2, 2007,
Losene went along with some friends
to swim in the sea. Since then he
has been considered missing.
On Tuesday, it was reported by
family sources from Monrovia,
Liberia, that the
family would decide to hold a
funeral program if the body could
not be found within the reasonable
period of time. As of now, the boy
has been declared dead and
funeral prayers were held in keeping
with Islamic tradition. Two other
persons who went on a rescue mission
for Losene are also feared dead.
Losene was born in 1993 in Nzerekore
while his parents lived there as
refugees as a result of the Liberian
civil war. His parents hailed from
Ganta, Nimba County.
