Fourteen beautiful women from across Philadelphia and its surrounding counties have vowed to bring financial relief to less-fortunate children who don’t have access to quality education in Liberia.

Calling themselves the Diplomats, the women say they have already begun the process of lending hands. They are currently sponsoring two students at the Muslim Congress and Salafiyah high schools in Monrovia.

During a recent visit of one of the group’s founders, Fatumata Mansally to Liberia, the group distributed ten bags of rice among some impoverished residents. “We are a social group that will do all it can to help our people,” said Fatumata, alias Somie.

To make their dream a reality, the Diplomats formally launched the social group Saturday (Feb. 21st) in Philadelphia to the delight of hundreds of residents who thronged the African Cultural Center edifice on 50th and Springfield Ave. to witness the historic occasion.

Attired in gold and black outfit, the jubilant Diplomats elegantly marched into the hall as they were cheered up by the audience. Other sister organizations including the Golden Sisters, Millionaire Club, United Sisters and Sabare graced the ceremony.

The Diplomats has Ms. Jataba Sheriff as their President. Other members are Fatoumata Massaley, Nancy Kamara, Assatu Kamara, Bintu Fofana, Musu Sheriff, Sogbeh Jawara, Sonah Trawally, Kadi Sanoe, Mama Kaba, Makoneh Dorley, Aminata Sheriff, Matenneh Donzo, and Marwa Sesay.

"I will leave the group if..." Sekou Jena warns

Sounding strong notes to his Diplomats, the "Father" Sekou Jena warned that he would quit the group if any of its members is found in acts inimical to proper behavior in the community. "If I see any of you in gossiping or doing things that will divide people, I will leave this group," Sekou said to roaring applause.

However, the "Father" who donated an undisclosed amount to the Diplomats' Education project, praised the group, noting that he accepted the honor to serve as the group's father because he sees "quality in these young women. They are people of exceptional characters in our community and I am very proud of them." He called on other women organizations in the community to emulate the fine examples of the Diplomats to help the needy in Liberia.

The star of the night was the Parrian (Male Special Guest of honor) Amadu Sangari who flew from Texas for the event. He donated $1200.00 towards the education of less-fortunate Liberian kids. Other contributors include the Marrain (Female Special Guest of Honor) Haja Sanoe, who donated $600. She was accompanied by her husband Yaya Sanoe; Special Invitee Mariam Bility and her husband Lusine Kamara donated $400; Sam Kaba donated $500 and Sabare social club with a $180 donation.

The Golden Sisters, United Sisters and Millionaire donated undisclosed amounts as donations. The African Youth Association's newly elected President Isa Fofana donated $113 followed by other community members who made donations towards the worthy endeavor.

"Mother" challenges Diplomats

The Diplomat's "Mother" Zainab Sheriff aka "Aunty JB" praised the Diplomats and said she was proud to be the "Mother". She thanked the contributors and admonished the Diplomats to make sure money being generated must be used for its intended purpose.

Stay tuned....
