The Organization of New York Mandingo
Association (ONYMA), on Sunday held an
elaborate program in commemoration of
the Eid. The program brought together
members and guests from cross section of
all five boroughs in New York City. The
program which was held at the Claremont
Park in the Bronx, started at 1pm and
lasted up to 9pm. Guests and members of
ONYMA were entertained with a host of
events including, scrabble, card,
checkers and music.
The program committee Chair;
Abdulah Jabateh and his team
were on hand showcasing
their guests and members
with praises. Mr. Jabateh
paid tribute to all the
married couples of ONYMA and
presented each couple to the
audience with words of
praises and admiration.
Newly reunited couples were paraded by the audience with
cheers and smile from the couples themselves. Mr. and
Mrs. Abdulah Kromah and Mr. and Mrs. Mohammed Samoedee
Sheriff were among the reunited couples. Both Mrs.
Kromah and Mrs. Sheriff have just arrived from Africa
few days ago to reunite with their husbands. Guests from
other organizations were also there to grace the
occasion.
The president of Ayausa, Mr. Essa Fofana and the Vice
president Elect of FELMAUSA; both of whom are product of
ONYMA, were present. Both men expressed their thanks and
appreciation to ONYMA for its effort in uniting the
community. Mr. Mohammed Kromah extended his best wishes
to the audience on behalf of FELMAUSA and urged the
audience to be an active force in FELMAUSA. He was
impressed by the turnout and the felling of love and
compassion that were shared amongst the members and the
guests.
Mr. Fofana for his part admitted that he has never seen
this level of unity and progress within the Mandingo
community in New York, and urged ONYMA to keep up with
the good work.
This assertion was also made by other members and guests
who were in attendance. Peoplswa, one of ONYMA’s top
brass, confessed that he has never enjoyed an Eid event
like this one. He like others was fascinated with the
crowd and the sense of hope, compassion and organization
that ONYMA has brought to the people of this great city.
A ‘hope’ that all New York Mandingoes have long yearned.
“I can’t belief this” he said. “All my life in Atlanta
we never had this kind of event. The program was a
complete success, and I believe that ONYMA has the
potential of becoming a powerful organization in the US,
seriously”. Peoplswa who was a dominant force behind the
establishment of the Atlanta Mandingo Association has
just moved to New York and has brought his experience
and vitality to ONYMA. ONYMA is proud to have him on
board.
The Chairman of the committee; Mr. Abdulah Jabateh
assured the audience that ONYMA will continue to
organize events that symbolize the true mission of the
association in meeting the needs and aspiration of the
community. He invoked their support to help make ONYMA a
strong and viable organization.
Since the establishment of ONYMA in 2007, the
association has consistently organized events in an
attempt to unite the community and restore a sense of
pride and joy to its people.
It can be recalled that in August of this year, ONYMA
hosted an elaborate beach party, with over 200 people in
attendance. Guests and visitors within the United States
and beyond graced the occasion, which by all accounts
has been considered by many as a ‘memorable event’.
FELMAUSA VP Elect meets New Mandingo Group:
Meanwhile, the Vice president elect of FELMAUSA; Mr.
Mohammed Kromah met with a women group who has expressed
the desire to work with FELMAUSA. The group ‘15
ANS-STARTDE USA’ is a newly established women group in
New York.
Mr. Kromah assured the group leadership that FELMAUSA is
the mother organization of all Mandingo groups in the
USA, and have established the platform to network with
other non Liberian Mandingo Organizations. Group ‘15
ANS-STARTDE USA’ will host an Eid Program on the 27th
of September 2009 in New York.
ONYMA sets up committee to aid FELMAUSA Inaugural Event:
In furtherance of ONYMA’s collaborative mission, a
committee has been set up to aid FELMAUSA inaugural
program scheduled to be held on November 6th
2009 in Newark, NJ. ONYMA’s participation comes as a
result of an outreach made to them by the President of
MENDE; Mr. Sekou Fofana. Mr. Fofana appealed that ONYMA
collaboratively assist his Inaugural team in making the
event a success.
ONYMA has accepted the request and have setup a team of
diligent members who will represent ONYMA in the
planning of this important event. Historically, ONYMA,
LIMAP and MENDE have worked
synergetically in
the interest of peace to bring hope and joy to the
Mandingo community. This request from Mr. Fofana is a
testimony to the success of their partnership and ONYMA
intend to preserve that good will. ONYMA is optimistic
that with this level of partnership from the three
states, the inaugural event come November, will be a
memorable one. The members of the committee are:
