Forum Engages Liberian Politician, Gets New Members

Monrovia, October 20, 2009…The Forum for the Advancement of Liberian Mandingoes and their Descendants played host to senate aspirant Grace Kpan who made a brief campaign stop over at the organization’s meeting ground on Sunday, October 18,2009 at the Bardnersville Junction while an officiating ceremony was on-going for some young but progressive heavyweights who had visited the organization to formalize their membership with this epoch-making institution that has contributed immensely to dialogue and community service as effective tools for sustainable peace and development in the new Liberia.

 

Honourable Kpan who spoke on several key issues that she would tackle upon being successful as Junior Senator for Montserrado County among other things, stressed that for too long the twin issues of unemployment and poor working conditions have been down played by policy makers and implementers and vowed to seriously take on these cardinal issues with the hope of reversing this ugly trend.

 

According to one of three female aspirants in the race, it has become more than necessary that the critical issue of unemployment is given keen attention as a means of ensuring peace and stability. She said creating the necessary socio-economic and political conditions that can lead to job creation will be a priority in the discharge of her legislative duty.

 

Similarly, as a labor practitioner herself, the would-be-senator also lamented the bad labor practices that have permeated the Liberian society from time in memorial and promised to work with fellow law makers and other stakeholders to ensure that the ILO decent work policy is implemented to the fullest in Liberia. She enumerated several result-oriented initiatives undertaken by her to better the working conditions of dock workers including increment in salaries, benefits and opportunities for Liberian seafarers to board various ships.

 

The tough-talking dock worker concluded by promising to be available and serviceable to all Liberians, especially the people of Montserrado County and will make sure that her door is always open to citizens of Montserrado so that collectively they can bring the desired developmental changes and policies envisaged by them.

 

Meanwhile, FALMD wishes to inform its many members, well-wishers, and other Liberians that the organization membership is fast growing as evidenced by the joining of several prominent personalities last Sunday.

 

Amongst the many who joined this noble organization were Messrs. Sidiki Trawally- Communication Consultant at the Ministry of Planning & Economic Affairs, Abraham Daramy-Marketing Manager of Lonestar Communications Company, and a brother Samuka from Philadelphia, USA.

All of these brothers during separate presentations expressed their delight in forming part of an institution that is on the mission to make the difference in the Mandingo community  and yea the larger Liberian society and promised to do their best in ensuring that the organization actualizes its many fundamental dreams aim at uplifting to a nobler height the Liberian Mandingo community by working alongside all peace loving and development conscious Liberians to strengthen peaceful but respectable coexistence, mutual development and social progress.

 

Finally, in its drive to become a full-fledge legal organization in Liberia with a flair of remaining a vibrant civil and pro-democracy voice, FALMD’s ad-hoc draft constitutional committee has finally concluded the drafting a comprehensive bylaws and constitution , which when reviewed, adopted and approved will become the Magna Charta  of the institution.

 

Furthermore, eleven (11) Standing Committees have been established by the interim National Executive Committee and names are now been suggested by members to form part of these committees. In the same vein, the National Executive Committee has begun preliminary discussion on ways and means of taking the organization nation-wide so that all Liberian Mandingoes and their descendants for once can have a national entity that they can belong and call their own.
