Quardu Gboni Honors Min. Abu Kamara

The Association of Quardu-Gboni based in Monrovia has honored Minister Abu Kamara for what they termed as his numerous services to the people of Liberia and the Mandingo community in particular.

The honoring program comes in the wake of the recent appointment of Minister Kamara by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs at the Liberia’s permanent Mission in New York.

Speaking at the program, Chairman of the Quardu- Gboni Association Varfee Konneh said Minister Kamara was “ a man of the people who has always participated in community activities when ever called upon. He said Mr. Kamara’s willingness to identify with his people has won him a favorable image in the hearts of many people.

The key note speaker of the occasion, Sekou Korleh urged the Mandingo youths not to relent in their quest to seek knowledge and apply same for the benefit of their community and the society at large. He said he was impressed by the increasing numbers of Mandingo youths enrolling in the various institutions of higher learning in the country, adding that they have responsibility to contribute to socio-economic and political development of Liberia.

Also speaking at the occasion, Musa Bility the President of National Mandingo Caucus of Liberia praised Minister kamara for his commitment and steadfastness towards his duty. “I have worked with Abu Kamra for some times now and I have no doubt in my mind that he will discharge his duty effectively” He called on the Mandingo youths to take their education seriously as the only viable means towards achieving success.

Specifically, Mr. Bility stressed unity among the Mandingo community in Liberia and urged them to join the rest of the Liberian communities in moving the country forward.

He Expressed appreciation to the paramount chiefs of Quardu-Gboni for gracing the occasion stating “you have made us proud”

In his appreciation remarks which was marked by tears of joys, Minister Counselor designate for press and Public Affairs, Hon. Abu Kamara expressed profound gratitude to the people of Quardu –Gbboni and the entire Mandingo community for the gesture, emphasizing that it was only through unity that progress would be made in the Mandingo community.

He said the honor does not belong to him personally but the entire Mandingo community which he said was notable for its virtue and emphasis on education and discipline for its children. “ I must acknowledge with great delight and feeling of nostalgia when our ancestors came together to eat from one bowl and celebrate unity and prosperity which earned them honor respect among their contemporaries”

Minister Kamara however, expressed regret for what he described as a dwindling nature of the Mandingo unity. “Regrettably, my dear brothers and sisters our community is bleeding. Our fraternity is wearing away. T he unity underpinned our progress in Liberia has been undermined by individuals pursuing selfish ends. This has to be arrested if the dreams and aspirations of our forefathers are to be kept alive.

Minister Kamara expressed thanks and appreciation to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the confidence reposed in him and promised to discharge his duty to the satisfaction of the Liberian people.

Mean while a group drawn mainly from the young Mandingo graduates currently based in Monrovia, under the banner of Mandingo Intelelectual Discourse Group on March 22, 2009, hosted a farewell party in honor of Minister Kamara at the residence of Mr. Abraham Sesay in Virginia out side Monrovia.

In his brief remarks at the occasion, Justice Kabineh J’aneh called on the youths to be productive and take their education very seriously. He said Mr. .Kamara’s ascendancy to the position of a Minister Counselor brings pride and respect to the Mandingo community. “I have followed the work record of Minister kamara since his appointment as Assistant Minister for information services, and has performed creditably well. He urged the Mandingo youths to make best use of their times by seeking knowledge that would place them in better positions to serve their people and the nation at large.

The chief host of the program Mr. Abraham Sesay who spoke among several speakers expressed delight for Mr. Kamara’s preferment and asked others to excel in their various areas of assignments. He said the gathering was to afford the like minds the opportunity to interact and chart a common course for the advancement of the community.
